IE fails to shrink width

No, they will be varying width, so that's why I've got the problem.

If they were all the same width, then I could specify the width for the 
containing divs.

Currently, I have a workaround to detect IE and generate some table tags (the 
page is generated by PHP).

But, I really would like a pure CSS solution.
