Hey there all,
First off, this is my first ever post, so I do apologise if I mess
anything up (though I have of course read the rules). I run a website
called Foundation Flash, which you can find at
http://www.foundation-flash.com, and, having read Dan Cederholm's book
"Bulletproof Web Design" I am looking to make sure my design will cope
with any situation it may find itself in.
This relies on making the same design working across browsers, and I
start with my biggest problem - that on Safari (both Mac and Windows).
Basically I have a "current tab" sort of an indicator on my navigation
bar, which turns the <li> that represents the current page white:
background:#FFFFFF url(../images/tabfade.gif) repeat-x;
padding-right:14px;
border-left:#006600 2px solid;
color:#000000;
and it works fine in both IE and Firefox. In Safari, however, the <li>
does not extend fully upwards or downwards and is instead limited to the
area of the text and across wards. This ruins the effect. I have looked
through lists of Safari problems and asked other but I am well and truly
stuck.
On a more minor point, when one tries the full page zoom in Firefox (not
2.0.11, just 3b2), a line breaks up the current tab's white area with a
horizontal line, though only at certain zoom levels. Weird... I suppose
this is a Firefox 3 problem so I shouldn't be worrying you about it. Oh
well.
My final concern, and I shall try to be brief, is that the "new" full
page zoom in IE7 completely stuff my design up. It can handle text size
changes, but this full-paged-ness kills my navigation bar. All of my
text moves to the left and it really ain't pretty (no such problem in
Firefox).
