Not being able to turn W3C's descriptions into something useful, has
nothing whatsoever to do with stupidity on your side :-)
The various IE/win teams have had since 1998 to do that, and still
haven't got it right. Maybe in IE8 - now that they've solved the smiley?

Thus, what you're asking for is simple in better browsers, but we have
to hack IE/win...

....with styles that would make all somewhat standard-compliant browsers
choke.

Remember to keep the various IE/win hacks (all 4) separate and in that
order, and it should turn out quite well across browser-land.
