[css-d] Overflow Fix?

Sent by Holly Marie on 31 January 2002 10:10

How does one prevent content overflowing divisions in NNx and Opera?
what appears in NN6, Opera...
[hope this displays well enough]

Page layout.

[body tag]
[Div 1] IE fix
[Div  2] page centering scheme

|            div                |  |     div      |
|                                 |  |               |
|       float: left 70%     |  |  .side      |
|                                 |  |   ends     |
|            overflow       |
|                                |

color: #333333;
font-family: Georgia, "Times New Roman", Times, serif;

div 1[class]/*IE fix*/
text-align: center;
background-color: #633; /*needed to put the bg color back around[NN6]*/
color: #000;
border: 0 none;
width: 100%;
margin: 0;
div2[class]       ]
width: 740px;
background-color: #fff;
color: #333;
padding: 2%;
border: 2px solid #000;
text-align: left; /*added to fix the centering from the IE fix*/
margin: 0px auto; /*centers division in compliant browsers*/
#content [Left floating division]
color: #333;
background-color: #fff;
#links[right side link area content]
color: #333;
background-color: #fff;

Is there a better way to center 740px wide content, and not have the
float content overflow the outer container/division on the left, or have
the division on the link side extend along with the left side content?
[left side content is generated and increases.]

An outer border area of different bg color is also desired. (also
without tables/using xhtml)
