jason a. ogle: "Can somebody enlighten me about what z-index is?"

You know the x-axis (aka horizontal) and y-axis (aka vertical) -- meet the
z-axis, which is at a right angle to both of the others and stretches from
behind where you're sitting, through your screen, off to the horizon. The
higher something's z value, the closer it is to you. So you can use z-index
to stack overlapping objects so that those you want to have on top actually
*are* on top, and those you want underneath are underneath.

Best,
