[css-d] Anchors vanishing under fixed DIV at top of page

Sent by Philip King on 31 January 2002 02:02

Hi, this list popped up just at the right moment!

I'm after a way to prevent my anchored text from vanishing under a
horizontal navigation bar fixed at the top of the window.

Under the nav bar I have a list of HREFs which link to name anchors
further down the page. When the link is invoked, the text of the name
anchor is hidden beneath the navigation bar.

The nav bar is currently positioned with:

div.navbox
{
    position: fixed;
    top: 0;
    left: 0;
    padding: 1em;
    z-index: 1;
    background-color: #6CC;
}

The anchors in question are within the following DIV. I've tried as many
variations of styles as my limited knowledge allows on both the
navigation DIV and the anchors as well as the main DIV.

I know ways I can fix this outside of CSS but it would be rather more
elegant to do it with a style if it's possible. I also realise my life
would be simpler if I ran the nav bar down the side of the page.
