Hi Nick,
I would recommend that instead of background-position you use the hover
attribute.
So sort of like this:
A {
background-image:none;
width: 130px;
}
A:hover {
background-image:url("mynewimage.jpg");
}
Now I've not actually tested that method this moment but I believe
that's how I did mine last time. Also just a small mention that since
your menu is in fact a list I'd recommend that in the future you use UL
and LI for your menu items instead of DIV's and it will help you out
greatly when sorting your CSS.

Correct, it seems to work in every browser I have tested (Firefox 2.0,
Opera 9.21, Navigator 9.0, and IE7) except IE6.
