my own user testing, targetted at sites where the users actually
make up a similar cross-section of the populace (government sites,
medical sites, etc.), i've found that removing underlines slows users
down and results in more mouse-scanning as opposed to visual
scanning...
it has the same net effect as "click here" -- it slows users down
and impedes comprehension of links...
