conditional comment not seen by IE 5.5?

In that way I think first all IE5 styles will be executed for IE5.5, and 
then the special IE5.5 styles will be added (or will overrule the given 
IE5 styles).
If completely separated stylesheets for each IE version are needed 
(except the general iestyles.css), shouldn't it be:
<!--[if IE 5.5000]> ...
<!--[if lt IE 5.5000]>...
?

Anyway, MS has this definition page about conditional comments 
<http://msdn.microsoft.com/workshop/author/dhtml/overview/ccomment_ovw.asp>.
Some examples are not updated. [1] :-)
