You have the right idea, but you should ditch the negative
z-index as previously mentioned, and there's a few more
snaggy bits as well. I have taken the liberty of making a
corrected version of 'Dynagirl' at:

No more floating, and the top image is absolutely positioned.
Yes, the right menu conflicts with the main section at very
narrow screen widths, but AFAIK this is your best option.
Works well in IE5.5/Op6/Moz/Win2k.
