CSS filtering, dithered.com is no more

Sent by Liam McGee on 18 May 2006 12:12

For those of you who were unaware, Dithered.com had a great set of
methods for filtering css for different browsers. The author had
researched all css filtering methods up to 2004 and compiled a large
table showing which methods work on which browsers. But it has just
disappeared.

Having got over the shock, take a look at
http://www.communis.co.uk/dithered/

Phew. A partial mirror.

It's sadly not all there as of the writing of this email (WYSIWYG, and
the 'update table' thing won't do anything I'm afraid) but it's a whole
lot better than nothing! Fingers crossed the domain may be renewed and
the whole thing will return to us one day... however in the meantime,
over the next few days we will put some time into tidying up the code
(getting rid of broken links, casting non-validating hacks into the
outer darkness) adding on newer browsers (we have Firefox 1.5, Opera
8.5, Blazer and IE7 beta already tested and ready to be added), and if
anyone fancies re-testing some of the older browsers and sending us the
results that would be great too.

Browsers we have got in the filters list:
All Moz 1.6
All Moz 1.2-1.5
All Moz 1.0-1.1
Win IE 6.0
Win IE 5.5
Win IE 5.0
Win IE 4.0
Win NS 4.05
Win Op 7.5
Win Op 7.2
Win Op 7.0

OSX Saf 1.2
OSX Saf 1.1
OSX Saf 1.0
Mac IE 5.1
Mac IE 5.0
Mac NS 4.05
Mac Op 6.0
Unix Kon 3.0

Browsers we have tested and will be adding shortly:
IE7 Beta
Windows Opera 8.5
Mac OSX Firefox 1.5
Windows Firefox 1.5
Palm Blazer

Browsers we need a bit of help with are:
All platforms Mozilla 0.6-0.8
All platforms Mozilla 0.6-0.9
Windows Opera 3.5
Windows Opera 4.0
Windows Opera 5.0
Mac OSX iCab 2.5
Mac OSX MSN

Mac Classic IE 4.5
Mac Classic IE 4.0
Mac Classic NS 4.00 - 4.04
Mac Classic Opera 5.0
Unix Konqueror 2.2
Unix Konqueror 2.0

If you have any of these last set and are willing to volunteer half an
hour or so to run through the tests, please drop me a line direct.

Hope you find this of some help.

Liam
