Hi Mark,
It's a bit confusing, two Mark's asking about Rounded Corners on the 
same moment! ;-)
Why is it so important for you to go image free? - Most web visitors 
have images turned on; but not always javascript is enabled ...

AFAIK, imageless indeed only can be done with javascript (in case you 
want IE to play rounded corners too).

For drop shadows combined with corners, I think images cannot be missed.
Perhaps something to use:

For rounded corner solutions (and for borders too, if wanted) with a 
small img: see the links in my replies to the other Mark! :-)
