Hi!
I'm currently planning to take some websites I created to another
medium: Handhelds & Smartphones.
I installed some browsers on my Symbian-based phone and tried to open
some websites offline. I put them onto the phone's memory before of course.
Already there I encountered my first problem: Some enabled me to open
pages offline - others didn't.
I'd like to know if you have already made experiences with CSS-based
websites on mobile devices and how you tested them.
- Does it suffice to shrink the screen of my browser on my computer to a
resolution resembling the dimensions of a smartphone / handheld?
- Should I try to run Symbian or Winblows Mobile in a virtual
environment to test the sites thoroughly? Is that even possible?
- Aren't there some testing-tools for that purpose? If I'd create a
browser for mobiles I'd make sure that Web-Developers do not have to
wrestle with the problems of testing their sites on my browser. After
all, I would want sites to be created for mobile devices - so making it
easy to develop such sites should be among my high-priority-tasks.
- What capacities do those mobile browsers have? Do they support as much
CSS as their normal equivalents (e.g. Opera 8.5 for PC equals Opera Mobile)?
- What resources did you use for further reading on 'CSS on Mobile
Devices'? Is there a sort of compendium for it?
Thanks a lot for your help!
Greets,
Tobias
