Try using a container div with overflow: auto (to contain the float)
and float one image right, one image left inside.
Something like this:
<div id="container" style="overflow: auto;">
<div id="image1" style="float: left;">
<img src="image1.png" alt="image1">
</div>
<div id="image2" style="float: right;">
<img src="image2.png" alt="image2">
</div>
</div>
