Annoying Safari issue - hidden links with images still clickable

I just realised a really annoying Safari bug:

If you have an image inside a link and you hide the link via
visibility:hidden the link is still clickable.

Is there a way around this issue - is it known?

The reason I am using visibility is that I don't want the forward and
backward links to jump:
