But that is the very problem I have with FF and Op rendering, which I have not known to solve yet.

This does not help.
If the order is 2 left and then 2 right "clear floats",
then the first right float starts at the same hight as the second left (in FF, Op).
The "clear: left" of the second left div pushes the following right floats to its starting height as
