RE: [css-d] Re: OT: Lack of Knowledge and the Web Factory

As someone who started with Adobe Pagemill and moved on to Dreamweaver, you
may be suprised to find that I now use HomeSite for 95% of what I do.

This is mostly to do with the near impossibility of creating compliant code
with Dreamweaver. I know there are plenty of add-ons out there (Project
VII), but I have neither the time nor the desire to go chasing after them.
And I simply can't stand that DW rewrites [selected="selected"] as
[selected], no matter what I do.

So I use HomeSite now, and find that I'm much more knowledgeable about this
whole business.

WYSIWYG tools aren't bad, mind you, and if Macromedia really pumps up
Dreamweaver 5 with good XHTML and CSS support, then I might go back. But
even if I do, I'll still use the code editor more than I do the visual

The comments that WYSIWYG editors have made a mess of things are,
unfortunately, correct. Too many people out there STILL don't know that
Dreamweaver produces extra, unecessary code. And because of that, they
don't know how to clean it up right.

Basically it boils down to knowing how to use the tools correctly.
