RE: [css-d] Divergence between compliant browsers

Sent by Rieselbach, Erik on 29 January 2002 13:01

Simon Seeber and Andrew Clover have chastised me for calling Opera's CSS
support "horrendous."

I admit to overstating my case, but I've had major problems in the past with
positioning, margins, and font sizes in Opera. I've just downloaded Opera 6
for Windows, and it seems to be much improved, I confess, though it still
does some strange things with margins. Opera 5 for Mac still has positioning
problems (although to be fair, Mac IE has different but equally persistent
problems with positioning too).

And Opera may have generally "better" CSS support than Win IE, but -- at
least in IE 5.5 (I don't have an IE 6 box handy) -- it's a lot easier to
work around the IE bugs and keep my pages looking correct in NS/Moz. And
generally -- to come back to my initial point -- I have little incentive to
hack my CSS just to make Opera happy, when the people who use it to see my
sites (corporate intranet-based) are 0 in number.
