Hmm. Are you sure.  Removing the space you had between the: ? and > in  
this declaration  <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>   fixes it.
And then removing this <html  xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> it  
would seem to me, then makes the file invalid.
