If you recently joined the list, you probably are not aware that
innocent font size questions such as yours have started innumerable
"flame wars" on this list. Most of us don't want to relive them again,
and often one of the admins will step in quickly.
Everything you migth want to know about different font sizing techniques
has already been published in the CSS WIKI. You can also find links to
many sites with differing points of view. It turns out that there's no
single best practice, but many good practices depending on your design
goals.
