Problem with IE not reading Style Sheets

Sent by Tracy Shorrock on 29 March 2005 15:03

Sorry, it can't be an XHTML issue. I've just visited:
http://www.brothercake.com/site/resources/scripts/tooltips/
?PHPSESSID=411e3342f01499db60bf22680d2cddbd which is showing the styles
in IE5.2. I also tested one of my other sites on my HD, and that is
showing the styles in IE5.2 correctly.

Both the sites I've tested from my HD are: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC
"-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

One shows styles in IE5.2 and one doesn't. Christian has kindly advised
me that 'The ie 5.02 and no stylesheet is on purpose, as it would mess
up on it :-/ ' So that solves that mystery. Which means that somehow
I've done the same with my own site, but how? It was working, then it
wasn't, and I haven't added any new hacks as far as I'm aware (!)

Now... even weirder... I've just loaded the pages onto the server
(http://www.freelancealot.co.uk/test/index.html ) and the styles are
working in IE5.2 when viewed from the server, but still not working
when viewed from the pages in my HD?!

FYI: I have not tested this on a PC yet, so if you don't see a header,
horizontal navigation, three columns and a footer, something's not
quite right! ;) The 'Hide/Show Left Column' script works in Firefox and
Safari, but not in IE5.2 for some reason. Does anyone know of another
way to hide/show columns? I've used P7's swapclass, so if anyone from
P7 is out there, do you know why it's not working in IE? Please e-mail
me off list as it's rather OT.

Helppppp....

Cheers,
Tracy

PS: I used Tonico's Flexible 3-col layout
(http://www.webproducer.at/flexible-layout/ ). I've added various
wrapper #divs and lots of .classes as I wanted a lot of flexibility
when it came to designing the alternative stylesheets. If anyone knows
of any problems with using this particular layout or styleswitcher, I'd
appreciate a 'nod'.
