I am using the same doc type, as I copied the code exactly. My problem
is that this exact same code is rendered differently in IE when
requested locally than it is when requested from the site (Firefox
renders both the same). I just cannot figure out why this might be.

Going out on a limb here since I can't look at your code, but the Real
World example has a strict XHTML doctype, which triggers strict mode
rendering in IE6 and Firefox. What doctype are you using? Could make
all the difference in the world in how the broswers render the page.
