i was waiting for some of the css veterans to reply to your post. i
searched the net, wiki, but found nothing on this. i did my own
experiments and was able to replicate the "bug". in addition i found
this
1. when the container div is set to the exact size of the background
image AND the background position is other than 0 0 (px,cm,pt,em) then
the background position is ALWAYS repeated, even if position-repeat
has been set to no-repeat.
2. when the container div is set to a larger size than the background
image AND you position the background to a coordinate that will make
one of the corners of the image be "out of view" then SAFARI actually
displays the entire image even the part that should be out of view, in
this case the image is not repeated.

i tried a few things to find a workaround but came up with nothing.
has anyone found a css woraround for this?
