Hi,
I've finally moved on with the Toby Vandevelde Photography site I was
posting to the list about some months ago - client stopped to have a
baby in the meantime!
The url is: http://www.vandevelde.co.uk
css: http://www.vandevelde.co.uk/main_1.css
This site works and looks great (and as it should) in Firefox (Mac) on
OSX 10.2.8. But the rest... here are some problems:
Safari & MS IE 5.2
1. Both browsers have problems with the Options Page
(http://www.vandevelde.co.uk/wedding_prices.html ). I think it's a
clearing problem, but I have a clear:both statement on the <div> below
the two floated boxes. Basically, all content after the floated boxes
moves to below the last content in the left or right columns.
2. I had background-color: transparent; for the .field class for the
Enquiry Form (http://www.vandevelde.co.uk/enquiry.html ), which worked
fine in Firefox, but appeared as a white background in the fields of
the form within IE 5.2 and Safari. So the white text I had with the
transparent background was of course not viewable. I changed the
background to #006192 (blue) and this worked in Firefox and IE 5.2, but
not in Safari! Is Firefox the only browser that accepts a transparent
background? And is there a way to get this effect in all browsers for
the form's input fields?
Safari
3. In the Enquiry Form, the background image is repeating at the
bottom, under the Send Enquiry and Reset Form buttons. I have a
no-repeat on the background statement, so I don't understand why it's
doing this in Safari. This page passed the validation for XHTML
Transitional.
4. The calendar doesn't appear on the Bookings page in Safari, this
maybe an issue to do with the javascript part of the calendar, buts
it's styled with css.
MAC IE 5.2
5. The calendar jumps around a bit as you mouseover the days, this is
due, I think, to the fact that I have used { border: 1px none #fff; }
for the normal view, then {border: 1px solid #fff} for the :hover. This
has the desired effect in Safari in Firefox, but not IE 5.2. Anyway, to
achieve this?
PC IE 5.5
6. The roll-over tel and e-mail buttons don't show the black rectangle
at the bottom of the window when you mouseover them. Could this be
something to do with the fact that I've changed it from <layer> to
<div>? Or is it just that the javascript doesn't work with PCs, would
be interested to know if any other PC users see it.
7. On the Bookings page, the box with dotted border and contact details
in is not centred, and the it doesn't look as though there's any
padding between the top and bottom borders as appear on the other
browsers.
8. The calendar seems chopped off at the right. Is this some issue with
IE adding extra space somewhere on the left so it's pushing it over?
9. On the Enquiry Form, there seems to be some added pixels show the
container's blue background, and some of the elements are slipping into
this. Would this be a hack situation?
I will be making an accessible stylesheet for this website, so I'm not
too worried about those issues on this one, although I've given
access-keys to the main navigation links.
The main_1.css has been validated with no warnings or errors. The XHTML
pages pass validation except for the bgsound mark-up.
Would be grateful for any comments and solutions to the above problems.
Cheers,
Tracy
