Many thanks. 

The underline is applied when the page onload event is dispatched, as
I change each button with an accesskey by its previous text with an
<em> tag surrounding the key that activates it (I change it's title
too, to indicate that a cmd key plus the accesskey will activate it).

Maybe the baseline change is something to do with my use of <em>?

Have you encountered a similar problem before?
