the perfect square...

Sent by Ted Drake on 31 January 2005 23:11

No offense Barbara, but the squares are not working for me. They are too blocky and the colors are
going to create some usability issues. How about using squares as a decorative element on blocks
without the solid colored backgrounds. Perhaps you could put a border around a div but place a
graphic of the square in the upper left corner, something that plays off the design but doesn't
overwhelm.

Subject: [css-d] the perfect square...

All,

In my attempts to use squares as a design element on our site, I'm
having difficulty wrapping my head around the way IE mishandles margins
and padding. Basically, I'm trying to figure out how I can dreate
square divs that actually appear as squares in standards-based browsers
as well as IE. Here's an example -- that obviously doesn't work for IE:

I'm working on a total site redesign and would use the solid color
background square a lot, if I can make this work. Examples, anyone?

Thanks,

Barb
