I think you're both right....(or wrong ;-)

The statement perhaps should be: "Developers will never achieve the 
same results with CSS that they have been creating with <tables> to 
present a site consistently across all reasonably current browsers 
(i.e., NN4).

And I would toss a "for the moment" on the end of that, as I eagerly 
await the day the above statement is not true. But for someone like 
myself who works on primarily design-driven sites, the phrase 
"degrades gracefully" is an oxymoron.

That being said, I'm excited by this list and the potential of CSS, 
and I'm throwing myself into learning the ins and outs with a renewed 
vigor.
