New to CSS

I'm very much a CSS amateur, but I've already thoroughly enjoyed learning
it.  I joined css-d just a few days ago and am excited about being a part of
it.  I can offer an answer to your first question.

The list's Wiki has a very good guide to many available layouts:

section includes a chart of various features in each.

My personal favorite among CSS layouts at this point is the Ruthsarian
layouts, specifically Skidoo Too.  It can be two- or three-column, with
header and footer.  Here's the link:
