There is a WIKI which accompanies this list. It is a treasure trove
of answers and pointers to resources. You'll find specific
techniques, as well as pointers to tutorials and lists of books. It
will easily answer your first question. [1]
For lists as navigation, you can do no better than study the code
produced from Listamatic. [2]
