Float, <ul>, and Clear

Sent by Bryan Loeper on 25 November 2004 03:03

The test-case [1] I'm currently working with floats some <li>s within
a <ul>. I want it to have a black background, but since the <ul>
collapses in IE, I'm having some trouble. I've already tried using
the .clearfix [2] solution, but it's not working for me. Near as I
can tell, my XHTML and CSS are valid, except for one CSS error that
I'm told by the W3C's specs [3] is not actually an error. Has anyone
else had experience with this or any solutions to offer?

Sincerely,
Bryan Loeper
