Using CSS to encode characters

Sent by Brian Jones on 13 November 2004 04:04

On the webdesign list I aksed the question is it smart
to put your email address on a site as actual text
(for example [EMAIL-REMOVED]) because of the issue with
webbots and spam...

Someone on the list responed with a way that you can
use CSS to change the direction of the text here's his
repsonse:

>I have also heard of using a CSS strategy that
changes >the left-to-right direction of the email
address to fool spambots. I don't know the exact
details but if your email address was:

[EMAIL-REMOVED]

>You would have to incorporate something like the
>following:

<span style="unicode-bidi: embed; direction:
rtl">moc.liamkciuq@eoj</span>

>There may be some major flaws with that example but
at >least it will give you the general idea.

What I would like to know is, is this techniquie
possible (or is there something similar) with CSS

Thanx
