Firefox 1.0 rc2 not respecting clear:both; bug or correct behaviour?

I've had the same issue recently - I use a   non-breaking space. It's
because the space isn't wide enough to trigger the clearing behaviour,
apparently due to font handling differences between PC and Mac platforms.
Replace your space with something wider - like XXX - and it should fix
things. Not particularly elegant, but I haven't had a chance to try any

Two days ago, I realized that Firefox 1.0 Release Candidate 2 on Mac OS 
X will not behave the same as previous versions in certain cases. It 
turned out that it will not respect the following rule:
