Thanks for all the discussion about using PHP to generate CSS; especially
those of you who posted coding details. It's an interesting idea and opens
some new possibilities. I use PHP quite a bit, but haven't used it in a
CSS file yet.

My thrust here (tho I guess it wasn't clear in my words) was really
concerned less with professional web authors, and more with your average
mom, pop, or Joe who maintains their own web site. Forget about scripting
for these folks. For less-experienced web authors (at least those not
using visual HTML editors), I think a simple way to set variables within
CSS itself would make CSS less complex; easier to understand and code.
Ditto for professional coders.
But then, there's really no point to arguing that point here and that
isn't my intention. I just want to clear up some misunderstandings I seem
to have propogated about what my point was.
