I think the most important thing is to design things semantically. In
other words, use functional descriptions instead of effect
descriptions. For example, instead of "red bold", use "urgent" or
something.
You should template the design based again on function--break down the
pages by what they are for, again, not by how they look. Not "three
column layout" but "product description". Your design can be very
flexible this way.
Then again, what the heck do I know...
