list item - unwanted top "padding"

The graphic bullets are taller than line-height, thus pushing the line 
down.  There does not appear to be any image positioning options as 
there are with background-image.  Eric Meyer's "CSS 2.0" programmers 
reference guide "... authors should exercise caution to ensure the image 
is not too large for the text in ths list item's content."
