Well *my* default font size is Opera's default font size. And I've
tested my 110% on Opera 6, 7.0, 7.2 and 7.5 on Windows and Mac platforms
and I've found no inconsistencies in that approach. It works. The only
way to change Opera's font size, in a manner that would truly affect
this approach, is to go through and change the 21+ different font
settings in Opera. I expect this to be a far far FAR smaller number of
users than those using Opera's default font size, so I would like to
work on getting a better experience for the greater percentage of users.
As for Opera's 'zoom' feature, that's (in terms of text) the same as
increasing the default font size for other browsers. That's why I'm
working in percentages, specifically so such settings can still work and
fonts remain the correct size relative to the base font size.
I choose to try and get a more consistent UI experience across platforms
than to just let things be. That's a preference, and not a wrong or
right. I choose not to at least make the attempt, rather than accept and
relax.
