So, I think the final word on this problem might be summed up as follows:
There are some positioning problems that are best solved with table like
semantics, even in CSS. In the interest of marking the text up with meaningful
markup, it's therefore the best practice to use the "display: table" property,
and it's bretheren, knowing in your heart it's the right thing(tm), as it
keeps the presentation stuff in the style sheet files, and out of the text.
