Dear CSS List,
I've been working away on a css Zen Garden design and have come up against a
brick wall. Opera is causing me positioning problems.
It is my understanding that when I position a div absolutely using say, top:
0 and left: 0, the div will be positioned in the top left of its containing
div (or the body). I may be wrong but Firefox and Opera do different
things; but it is possible that it could be down to the other surrounding
divs etc.
Have a look at my design: http://doepud.tk/zengarden/index in Firefox and
Opera. I have positioned the #footer div absolutely top: 0; and left:
46px;. In Firefox this places the #footer div to the top (and left 46px) of
it's containing div (#supportingText) whereas Opera places the #footer to
the top (and left 46px) of the #container div. Any idea what I'm doing
wrong?
I tried providing various values for "top" in pixels first then in ems, both
leaving disparate results in the two browsers. I've tried positioning
relatively as well... no luck. If you want to see where I want to have the
footer I've used the StarHtmlHack to place it precisely in Internet
Explorer.
All help and advice would be much appreciated.
Many thanks in advance,
Blair Millen
