Position to left, right, and nothing else?

This is certainly closer than I have gotten.

I'm sort of surprised that CSS doesn't handle this well, it seems like 
something you'd want to do pretty often.

Admittedly, I have rarely seen things handle it truly well. Maybe QuarkXpress. 
In word processors I often find myself having the put the title and date in 
the same line, centered, with enough spaces to make it look flush with the 
edges.

Once in a while that even looks okay.
