Well, I *think* I have my pulldown menus working - sort of (see
www.francesallen.com/ventura/eng/. That is, they appear to work with
IE/Win at last and behave better with other browsers (except IE for
Mac).
In the end, I followed the suckerfish/dropdowns/ solution, despite the
fact that you seem to have to choose to make it work either with IE/Win
or IE/Mac but not both - unless somebody can give me a modified version
of the javascript which does this? (I still don't understand why the
Meyer css-only fix didn't work.)
I am uneasy about having to resort to a javascript fix, both because I
have to just paste in other people's code without an ounce of
comprehension, but also because of the 10% of users who apparently do
not or cannot interpret js.
Once again, thanks to those who responded - much appreciated. Now if
only governments and people behaved and shared like the computing
(user) community ... ...

Would that I could! I used it when employed, but I am now a pensioner
and can't afford it. (I am doing a couple of websites free, for people
who don't have the resources to employ proper web designers.)
