Hi Many thanks to Chris Hellmann and the two who replied off-list. I am reassured by this quick response that I am not alone! The ie hover problem: Blair Millen suggested I should look at http://www.aplus.co.yu/adxmenu/examples2/winxp/purecss/index.html http://www.alistapart.com/articles/horizdropdowns/ Chris Hellmann suggested I look at > www.htmldog.com/articles/suckerfish/dropdowns/ I was put off the first because it did not work in my Safari browser ... I had already looked at alistapart and htmldog, but been scared off by the need to use javascript - CSS alone is proving enough of a learning curve! This is why I tried (unsuccessfully to adapt Eric Meyer's hover fixes (but it in turn depends on a file called hover.htc which I neither understood nor could get to work). I'm now going away to try to understand Chris's (helpful) message and to try the listapart and htmldog solutions again - and face up to having some javascript around. Again, I appreciate all help and hopefully I'll be back to say I've cracked it!
