Horizontal Style Menus

Sent by Phil Baines on 5 August 2004 18:06

Hi All,

I have recently been trying to bring an ecommerce system into web standards.
It is going to take a while, but the first few steps are there.

www.healthleadsuk.com <http://www.healthleadsuk.com/>

One thing I have tried to do is implement the navigation from ALA:

http://www.alistapart.com/articles/horizdropdowns/

All was going well, until I started checking it out under IE5. It got very
messy. And it seems that the javascript was the main cause of the bug. That
is why I have had to alter the JS not to kick in for IE5.

The bug acted in a way that I have not seen before. When I mouse over the
navigation it would jump down the page, and if I mouse over it again, it
would go further down, and the LI elements would increase in size. It seems
to be the className change in the javascript that was causing it, but I know
that this code works in other environments. So I was wondering if the
combination of the JS and some CSS might be causing the problems.

Sorry that I can't give you a 'working version' of the bug, but I have to
remove it all together for the client.

Thanks for any potential help you might be able to give.

Regards,

Phil Baines
