Re: parse errors, but the css & html validates on w3c site

Sent by Alforddesigngroup on 1 July 2004 21:09

well, after some investigation into this matter, i think i have found
the culprit...me.

david laakso was kind enough to fix the page and put it on his server
(thanks david!). just for the halibut, i ran it through the css/html
validator at w3c. it validated.

here's where it got interesting. i then copied the code that david
fixed and that validated "online" and replaced the code on my page with
his. i then ran validation on the page at w3c and the page spit out the
same parse errors as before. did i happen to mention that i was trying
to validate the file "locally"? i didn't think so.

i also found out that the tcp/ip module has built in corrections for
online viewing that "local" viewing doesn't have. that could be the
reason that my pages don't validate on my machine.

anyway, thanks to all who have offered help. i have decided to lurk
until i put my site up, then if i run into any problems i will ask for
help with a url available for checking.

best,
dwain
