CSS padding/margin/border in IE and Firefox

Sent by mark drayton on 25 June 2004 10:10

Hi

I'm trying to do something incredibly trivial: place an image in the
(horizontal) centre of a page with a 4px white border then a 1px black
border.

I have a test at:

This works fine in Firefox 0.9 and almost fine in IE6, except the img
margin is greater than 4px at the bottom.

I've tried all manner of padding/margining different elements and I've
never managed to get the two browsers to look the same. Surely this is
achievable without using the famous IE box model hack?

For a bonus point, is it possible to do this without hardcoding any
dimensons in the CSS?

Cheers,
