I actually had similar difficulties using Eric's menus, but I think
it's more an issue of the positioning he used than the technique. I
don't like to mention specific client work I've done, but, in absence
of an abstracted demo, try http://www.airvent.com/homeowner * . By
putting the submenus closer to the main menus it's quite a bit easier
to get to the submenu items without inadvertently rolling off the menu.
You might check one of the "products" sections, where there is
actually a sub-sub menu as well.

Well, my cgi thing didn't really address the usability part of the
equation. All it did was send more compliant browsers code that was
similar to Eric's pure css menus, while sending IE code that used
javascript instead. So I'm not sure if that's so much the answer you
seek as it is playing with the positioning.
* DISCLAIMER: note that I'm not a designer or a copywriter, just a
code geek, nor do I know all that much about attic ventilation. I'm in
no way responsible for the content or design of the site - just for
making it work. I, also, only wrote about 85% of the css, the JS
(though I used a public-license library as well)Also, if you look too
closely, there are things that could be done much more easily/elegantly
with things I have learned since then, or even in the process of that
site, but it was a short-deadline thing. This was done for my
employer, who in turn was hired by the company that owned the site. So
I in no way want to claim any kind of intellectual property ownership I
don't have...
