site check needed -- and a few questions

styles are in the head

Is there a way using css to reduce the spacing between <p>s and <h>s? I'd
like to close up a couple of the spaces in the #subtitle and #content. I was
able to reduce them a little by changing line-height, but that causes some
overlapping when the text size is increased.

There's a thin white border/margin (?) showing on the left edge of this
page. I'd swear it appeared just as I right-floated the #content, but
removing that line from the styles doesn't change anything. It's not really
a problem; I'd just like to know what's causing it.

Also...this page is to be linked from a couple of pages on an existing
website (which I have nothing to do with). Is it going to matter that this
page has a doc type when the others don't? The rest of the site doesn't use
css. Sorry if this is a dumb question....

Any comments and suggestions will be appreciated as this is the first web
page I've done that will be used. I'd really like to know how it appears to
Mac users.

Thanks--
Carol
