The em is relative to its parent element. If you set the font-size of
the body element to 14px, then 1em would be 14px for its child elements.
Let's say you want a 200px wide column, assuming a font-size of 14px the
result is 14.29em (200/14).
You could start creating a layout with px for the body and ems for the
rest, and finally replace the the body font-size with a value relative
to whatever.
