Except for user stylesheets, I think those presumptions rather dated.
Surely many, but most? Even if most is still applicable, you continue to
presume you *know* that there's something wrong with *his* box stock
configuration that you *need* to do something about. Just because box
stock is not OK for you doesn't automatically make it not OK for
everyone else too.

This is obviously the way many designers to it, to prefer the *presumed*
needs of the many clueless and lazy over the needs of those who know
their needs and do something about it. It's shamefully disrespectful.

Just exactly how big is the default physically on your system? You can
see mine approximately in the 17 pixels table, 1024x768 row and 19"
column on http://members.ij.net/mrmazda/auth/pixelsize2.html.

Compared to what? You're a web professional, right? I'll bet you aren't
doing your work sitting in front of a 14" CRT most of most days, more
likely using a 19" if not a 21" or 22". Your age? I'll bet your eyes
have yet to suffer noticable deterioration so many see as the years
advance.

Makes me wonder just how much testing you do. Can you honestly believe
you can fairly test at 640x480 and 1800x1350 and several or all in
between (and at differing DPI values) and never adjust the default? If
you do, I envy your excellent eyesight, but not your naivete'.
