Beginners Guide to CSS

Hi all, but been reading for a while : first message and don't know to post
a reply yet so here goes,

That layout (and I can understand your duh! about complicated CSS) was
created from a wishlist of various people. I have decided not to do any
further work on it as it is as you say getting very complicated, and I don't
see CSS's job is to reproduce tables. If a table fits, use one ;)

It was more a fun? exercise in what could be done. And is also more like
your last step  -  fully supported (without the need for IE workarounds) in
about 2007! - btw I did (with someone's help) get it working in IE5/Mac too
but adding yet more workarounds to the CSS was becoming silly.. I have a
site entry to this effect going up v.soon.

Big John's layout is one of the best I've seen if that's the effect to be
produced but it does mean the center column has to be the longest.. which
was one of the items on the "wishlist" I had to address. All three columns
had to be able to control the length.
