By Jove, you're right! - The strange thing is - I knew about FIR and it 
didn't occur to me that hidden elements wouldnt be read.

I suppose thats what I get for knocking it up in 5 minutes.
Thank you for correcting me.

Perhaps the solution is to have an "accessibility mode" link which 
disables stylesheets / makes the hidden elements visible.. this would 
probably fix the problem.

Also... if we didnt set the style to display:none; but instead 
positioned the text-footer absolutely e.g. left::-1000px; would a screen 
reader still read it out?
